It’s only hair

When it comes to my hair, I’m fairly low maintenance.
I cut it.
I wash it.
I dye it.
The end.
Occasionally, it gets a few curls or flat-ironed, but for the most part . . it’s up and outta my face behind a bandana or in a bun. I make no fuss over my hair, but I’ve been trying to grow it out for the past few years now, and it’s a super slooooow process because my hair is just retarded like that.
So the other day, Mister and I were in a conversation about my hair, and he was commenting on how he enjoys redheads and somethin’ or another .. I don’t know, I forget, but what I doooo remember is him saying that he wouldn’t want me to cut it short. “A boy ‘do”. He doesn’t want me sporting one. “It’s too boyish. You’d look like a boy with big tits.”
I wasn’t aware that I had boyish features, and that my hair was the only thing keeping me from looking like a dick-packer.
So of course, I tell ‘im that I’ll cut it if I want to because it’s my head and I’ll do as I please. And then he countered that with a, “Uhh, no. You won’t. You won’t cut it. Uhh, no.”
And y’all know that shit ain’t happenin’ this time around . . I don’t get told what to do by anyone.
So I disappeared for about seven minutes, and this is the result. If you saw the back and/or the other side, it’s like an inch long - it’s called being asymmetrical .. *beams* That’ll teach him to tell me what to do.
It’s hair. It’s only hair. It grows back. Maybe mine will . . maybe it won’t. But he sure as fuck ain’t telling me when it will grow back.

Holy fuck! OMG, that is what I did last time! I’m just growing it out now. Remember? My eff’n husband said he didn’t like me w/ short hair? I was so pissed. What kind of a stupid thing is that to say? He actually told me, “DO NOT CUT YOUR HAIR SHORT, I DON’T LIKE IT” and I (ran) went to the salon the next day and told my gal to CHOP it ALL off. Fucker. WHO does he think he is telling me what I can and can’t do with my hair?

GO RED! I’m so with you on this! I LOVE IT! Maybe next time they’ll shut their big traps? I mean, my husband knows me, he knows I do not like being told what to do…. why does he continue? Did he not think I’d do that? GAH!

Yes, I did it myself. I cut my own hair, due to bad experiences in the past. I did most of it in 7 minutes, but then went back and finished it up.
Mister did help a tad - down at the very base, I was sporting a rat tail that I just couldn’t reach
Im looking into grants to go to beauty school - Ive actually flirted with the idea for years .. if I can cut my own, I know I can cut others’.

I LOVE it! You are beautiful! I don’t think your hair is what makes you that way though.
I wonder what he would think if you lost your hair completely like I did with chemo? Do they really mean to make us feel so insecure about our looks that we must have great hair or they will no longer love us? I think you just caught him in a stupid moment. We all have them. But I’m lucky that hair has never been an issue for TGH. He loves me no matter what I look like. I bet yours does too - just doesn’t realize what he’s saying.
Ya know, Teeni, I dont understand his issue with hair. It’s Hair. That’s it. Hair. I didnt catch him in a stupid moment, he has always had a big hang up about hair. It’s quite weird actually, and something Ive never completely understood. He’s rather conservative when it comes down to it, and anything that’s not of the norm is looked at in a bad manner. It’s one of his weirder traits, I’d say.
But, I do think that if I were to lose it (God forbid I have to go through chemo) it’d be a different story. That’s not somehting a person can help. That’s due to medical issues, and not just something of a whim, ya know what I mean ..
For me to purposely cut the femininity off the top of me head is what gets to him. And I love that I did it.

I like the way short hair looks on the ladies, but I had never been with a short haired gal until my wife got a super short haircut once. I liked how it looked, but how it felt freaked me out. It felt so unnatural, but that freaked out feeling faded after a while.

Funny, I had the opposite problem with the ex. He ALWAYS told me I needed to get a haircut…and I’d refuse. You’d think these men would learn by now that we’re gonna do exactly the opposite of what they want. Ha!

Stands up and applaudes, I wish my daughters would do the same effin thing you did they have husbands/boyfriends that tell them to keep their hair long and they have extremely thick hair and all three have below the shoulder hair which they pull back and keep on top of their head anyways.. so I don’t friggin get it, other than the men want something to grab hold of so they don’t fall off during sex but other than that they don’t have the hassel of caring for the hair so what the hell does it matter?

Yep, I did the same thing .. had semi-longish but not really hair and it was always in a ponytail or some shit . . May as well chop it off, you didnt see it most of the time anyhow.

I am so proud of you. It reminds me of the words to one of my favorite songs by Tom Petty:

I even put the You Tube of that song on one of my blogs.
I guess that’s another reason why I am divorced. No one tells me what to do. Well, almost no one. I’ll let my daughter get away with it because she is usually right.
Anyway, I don’t know what your hair looked like before but you did a damn good job of cutting it by yourself. It looks terrific. I have short curly hair and I tried to cut it myself once but that didn’t work out very well.

That’s one reason I got divorced the first time (only one of the many reasons!) .. he was a dick, unlike Mister cuz he aint one. Yeah, he’s got this hangup with hair, but that’s it. It’s stupid, and I wont put up with it, he knows it, but it’s not like he does it all the time, ya know.
Curly hair is harder to cut .. ive done it, with so-so results .. My hair? Ehh, it was one length, passed the shoulders .. I like it much better thissa way.
